DTV Plus is committed to helping local broadcasters leverage their existing content and new digital bandwidth to create a compelling new spectrum of programming. DTV broadcasting is about more than just video and audio, it is about rich multimedia experiences more akin to the Internet, but without the wait. DTV Plus is defining and captivating the next generation of broadcast television viewers.
DTV Plus teamed up with WRAL-HD and Triveni Digital to begin data broadcasting experiments in 1999. At the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in April 2000, DTV Plus worked with Triveni Digital and KLAS-TV in Las Vegas to demonstrate for the first time ever, the data broadcasting technology through a live, local broadcast.
In October 2001, DTV Plus launched TotalCast, a free data broadcast service in the Raleigh, NC., on two digital channels, WRAL-DT and WRAZ-DT. Content included video-on demand from WRAL news, the WRAL.com microsite, games, software and other local programming.

Since the launch of TotalCast, DTV Plus has used the digital spectrum to broadcast a wide variety of content. Updated election results were distributed during the 2002 elections, and a complete list of school and business closings were broadcast when winter weather blanketed central North Carolina with snow and ice.
KLVX-TV in Las Vegas and DTV Plus worked closely in April 2003 to provide data broadcasting demonstrations featuring HD video on demand clips. DTV plus also joined with Microsoft and other industry leaders to create the Windows Datacasting Working Group.
DTV Plus is poised to help local broadcasters fully utilize their digital signal as the digital television transition moves forward. With back-side infrastructure to client-side software, DTV Plus offers a full package to help stations begin and maintain their data broadcasts.
